After a 4-4-2 start through the team's first 10 games of the season, Leafs Nation was approaching boiling point with the team, wanting a significant trade or to have Sheldon Keefe replaced behind the bench. Some were going so far as to call for the jobs of Kyle Dubas and Brendan Shanahan.
Now 8-5-3, the Leafs still have some work to do, but they're currently second in their division and riding a 4-1-1 run since their less-than-ideal start. On Monday, Leafs GM Kyle Dubas spoke with the media, letting everyone know what his opinion of Keefe is this season and, somewhat surprisingly, it is overwhelmingly positive.
We know that Sheldon Keefe is a demanding coach. We also know that there are rumours floating around out there that he has lost the room, so to hear Dubas quash those rumours and reveal that the players want to play for Sheldon Keefe, it should pour some water on the idea that Keefe was ever on the hot seat in Toronto.
