Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe has confirmed that they will be rolling with rookie goaltender Joseph Woll tomorrow night against the Flames and then going back to Ilya Samsonov on Saturday against the Canucks in the 2nd half of the back-to-back.
Woll will enter tomorrow's game with a 4-4-0 record but decent peripherals as he holds a 2.79 G.A.A and a .913 SV%. After a fantastic start to the season where he went 3-1-0 with a .961 SV%, Woll has gone 1-3-0 since with a .858 SV% and has allowed 16 goals in the process, including last night's loss to the Ottawa Senators where he gave up 6 goals on 27 shots.
As for Samsonov, everyone is anxiously waiting for him to turn things around as he holds a 2-1-2 record, a ghastly .855 SV%, and an even scarier 4.11 G.A.A. He has allowed 12 goals in his last 4 games but has been pulled twice and only faced 80 shots in the process.
It's a big back-to-back for the Leafs, who need to get back on track after a middling start to the season. They haven't played their brand of hockey, the opposition has dominated in almost all facets, and their goaltending - especially Samsonov - bring about far too many question marks this early in the year. The Leafs badly need a win from both of these guys right now and, more importantly, a quality start from each as well.
