While one of the Toronto Maple Leafs' injured forwards is close to returning, he has been officially ruled out for both of the team's games over the weekend.
Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube told reporters this week that Jarnkrok will not play in either of Toronto's two games this weekend against the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Jarnkrok's eventual return could have major implications for the Maple Leafs at the trade deadline as he plays both wing and centre. With the team rumoured to be looking for another centre before the playoffs get underway, Jarnkrok could potentially solve that problem from within the organization.
"He could come in tomorrow and feel a lot better. He said he felt better today, which was good. But just not capable of getting out there and practicing yet."
While some members of Team USA and Team Canada, who participated in the final of the 4 Nations Face-Off, are rumoured to be getting a break from their respective teams, it looks like Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews are getting right back into the action this weekend and will suit up against the Hurricanes on Saturday night.
