Leafs defender set to miss six months, another is week-to-week
Wednesday night, the Leafs lost Jordie Benn in the first five minutes of their game against the Habs. Five minutes into the second, they also lost Carl Dahlstrom. That forced the Leafs to move Alex Kerfoot and Calle Jarnkrok back to play defence.
Thankfully Rasmus Sandin decided he wanted to help the team and seize the opportunity available to him and signed a 2-year deal with the team Thursday morning. It's a good thing he did as Keefe provided updates on Dahlstrom and Benn after practice this afternoon and they're not good.
Carl Dahlstrom will need surgery and is out a minimum of six months while Benn is out a minimum of 3 weeks. Along with Timothy Liljegren out until November and Jake Muzzin dealing with back issues, the Leafs' blueline depth is very thin to begin the season. It is yet to be seen if the Leafs will make a trade to add some depth or explore some free agent/PTO options.
