Obviously, there are a lot of layers to the Bertuzzi situation, the most pressing issue being whether or not Bertuzzi will even be eligible to play in Canada if he is entirely unvaxxed. That said, perhaps any Canadian teams who may have expressed an interest in the Sudbury, ON native have already spoken with him about provincial health protocols and any upcoming changes.
Assuming that there is a way around some of the red tape, Bertuzzi -- the player -- could be a real asset for the Leafs. Not only is he a productive player, but he'll also throw his weight around and drop the gloves if called upon.
Bertuzzi, 27, signed a 2-year deal with the Red Wings prior to the start of the season that carries a $4.75M AAV through the 2022-23 season - so he does have some term remaining if the Leafs view him as a legitimate option to help bolster the top six.
Through 50 games this season, Bertuzzi has managed to register 24 goals and 24 assists for a total of 48 points. With that type of production and the other intangibles he brings to the table, he could be quite the deadline addition. That is, of course, if the Leafs can strike a deal with the Wings and if Bertuzzi would even be eligible to play in Canada.
