Late Monday evening, the Leafs made a pair of emergency recalls from the AHL's Toronto Marlies. No further explanation was given as to why the emergency recalls were made at the time, so naturally, fans began speculating as to what may have happened to warrant the recalls.

Per the Leafs' official PR account on Twitter, the club has recalled winger Kyle Clifford and defenseman Carl Dahlstrom from the Marlies. At this point, it would appear as though injury or illness are the likely culprits.

The Leafs traveled to Boston on Monday in preparation for Tuesday's meeting with the Bruins at TD Garden, so a late recall for Clifford and Dahlstrom means that they either flew out late last night or early this morning.

There's no word yet as to whether either player will be on the game time roster or if they were simply brought in to be the 13th forward and 7th defenseman, but I'd expect that we'll have some more clarity following Tuesday's morning skate in Boston.

Dahlstrom has appeared in just one game for the Leafs this season, registering no points. Clifford has appeared in 13 games for the Buds this season, recording a pair of assists and 9 penalty minutes, which includes a fighting major after a tilt with Winnipeg's Brenden Dillon earlier this season.
