Leafs place yet another defenseman on IR, announce an emergency call-up from the Marlies
The Toronto Maple Leafs made a pretty significant announcement on Thursday afternoon, just ahead of the team's matinee against the Philadelphia Flyers. The team announced at 12:06 ET today that they have placed defenseman Rasmus Sandin on Injured Reserve, meaning that he won't be available to the team for at least the next 7 days, which means he will likely miss Tuesday's game in St. Louis and perhaps even next Thursday's game in Arizona.
Sandin suffered what the team has reported is a neck injury during Tuesday's game against Tampa. It's unclear exactly when the injury had occurred, but the team pulled Sandin from the game for precautionary reasons during the second period and he did not return to the game.
In addition to placing Sandin on IR, the Leafs also announced that they have used his roster spot to recall rookie defenseman Mac Hollowell on an emergency basis. Hollowell is not expected to play on Thursday, as Jordie Benn will draw in for Sandin and play alongside Timothy Liljegren.
