After a strong showing in his one World Junior game, Leafs prospect Matthew Knies has been invited to join Team USA at the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing.
The 19-year-old forward has 16 points in 18 games this season for the University of Minnesota and plays a strong power forward role, using 6'3", 210-pound frame to control the puck and create space for himself. He also possesses a wicked shot.
Knies scored one goal at the World Juniors and looked impressive in Team USA's lone game against Slovakia. Knies will join several other NCAA forwards on Team USA and it will give Leafs fans another chance to watch one of the organization's top prospects on the international stage in February.
Per Frank Seravalli, the list is still fluid and not all have confirmed participation. USA Hockey is actively adding others, but with that being said, it looks like the Leafs' second round pick in 2021 will be heading to Beijing in February.
