Tonight marked the AHL season debut of Leaf prospect, Mikhail Abramov. Abramov had missed the start of the season, including the entirety of Leafs training camp, due to a back injury. In the first period of his return, Abramov took a high hit from Syracuse Crunch defensemen Daniel Walcott. This drew the immediate attention of Marlies defensemen Noel Hoefenmayer, who dropped his gloves and went right after Walcott immediately.
Dispite looking injured on the play, Abramov was back on the ice to start the second period, thankfully.
Mikhail Abramov was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2019 NHL entry draft. The 21-year-old Russian centermen spent his junior career playing for the Victoriaville Tigres, where he established himself as a scorer. Over three seasons there, he produced 160 points in 150 games. Last season, Abramov graduated to the Toronto Marlies, where he posted 28 points (7 goals & 21 assists) in 66 games.
