The Leafs eked out the win in New Jersey last night, snapping the Devils' 13-game winning streak in dramatic fashion, but they did not skate away unscathed. On top of being belted with food, drinks and trash during the game, the Leafs also lost defenseman Jordie Benn, who left the game during the second period.

Benn, who was injured at some point early on in the 2nd period, tried to come back in the third, but to no avail. He skated just two brief shifts in a little bit over 1 minute of ice time in the third before the discomfort became too much to push through.

On Thursday, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe addressed the media after practice, revealing that Benn's injury is not a minor one. The Leafs do not yet know the full extent of his injury and subsequent tests will need to occur before they have a clearer picture, but what Keefe did say is that Benn's injury is a "week-to-week" type of upper-body injury.

The Leafs did swing a trade on Wednesday to acquire another defenseman, sending Marlies center Curtis Douglas to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for 24-year-old Conor Timmins, who also happens to be a right shot. Following the trade, Leafs GM Kyle Dubas let it be known that the plan was for Timmins to meet the Leafs in Minnesota on Thursday, which he did, but Dubas also stated that he'd leave the decisions in the coaching staff's hands as to when Timmins will actually make his Leafs debut.

Timmins did indeed skate with the club today, but Keefe confirmed after practice that he wants to get Timmins comfortable with the team and the system for a bit here before he makes it into game action. Timmins will be a healthy scratch on Friday afternoon, along with Nick Robertson and Denis Malgin. Victor Mete and rookie Mac Hollowell will form the team's 3rd pair against the Wild on Friday.
