Leafs receive devastating news regarding top prospect
When the Toronto Maple Leafs selected Ty Voit with the 153rd pick in the 2021 NHL draft, scouts felt like Toronto was getting an under sized player with a high offensive ceiling. In his draft year, Voit scored 80 points in 67 games with the OHL's Sarnia Sting. He would return to the OHL for the 2022-23 season putting up an astonishing 24 goals and 105 points in 67 games.
The 20-year-old Voit was making his AHL debut with the Toronto Marlies last week when his bad injury luck struck again. Only six minutes into the game, Voit went into the boards awkwardly.
The Marlies announced today that Voit will have season-ending shoulder surgery and is hopeful to be return for training camp.
Voit entered his first professional season with a shoulder injury he suffered during the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in mid-September. He made his pro debut in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers on December 1st, scoring 2 goals and 8 points in 5 games with the team before getting called up.
Hopefully this will be the end of Voit's ongoing shoulder injuries. When healthy, Voit has shown glimpses of pure brilliance and looks like he could be a very intriguing prospect over the long-term.
