The NHL is in its second week of the season and yet, there are already rumours of teams exploring the trade market. Through their first six games, the Leafs are 4-2-0 and are coming off of a 4-1 win over Washington last night thanks to an outstanding performance from Joseph Woll. In the off-season, the Leafs added Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi to fill some roster spots left by the departing Ryan O'Reilly, Alex Kerfoot and Noel Acciari. The additions of Bertuzzi and Domi have given the Leafs the deepest left wing position they have had in years.

As Bertuzzi and Domi continue to find their way with their new team and teammates, Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has reported that Brad Treliving has already begun reaching out to teams about upgrading his lineup. Many expect Treliving to add a defenseman that brings some physicality and toughness, but according to Pagnotta, Treliving is looking for something else as well.

Pagnotta noted that Treliving is currently reaching out to teams in search of an upgrade for the Leafs' top-six forward group that is of low-cost. He also said that it is not that Treliving is looking to make the upgrade now, but is checking on availability and market prices, essentially doing his homework.

Before the season began, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli had reported that Brad Treliving is typically the type of GM who is in on everything and remains very active in talks throughout the year, which bodes well for the Leafs if something does come up. Treliving isn't afraid to make moves if he feels that they benefit his team.
