There was no shortage of action in the contest, as the Devils skated away with a decisive 7-2 victory, but the real question is; were the Buds there scouting the Canucks, the Devils or both?
The Leafs have long been rumoured to have had interest in Canucks winger J.T. Miller and have also been tied to former 5th overall pick Luke Schenn, who began his career in Toronto.
If the Leafs were there scouting either player, it could have been much worse. Despite the Devils hanging 7 on the Canucks, Miller finished the contest as a -1 with 1 assist, 2 shots on goal and 1 hit in just over 19 minutes of ice time.
Meanwhile on the back end, Schenn was a -2 on the night in just under 17 minutes of ice time, racking up 3 hits and 1 blocked shot in the loss.
Another potential target for the Leafs -- if they are still interested in bolstering their top-6 -- could be feisty winger Conor Garland, who did not get on the board, but not for a lack of trying with 3 shots and a -2 in 16:32 of ice time.
On the other end of the ice, the Leafs are rumoured to have inquired on defenseman Damon Severson with the Devils. Severson led the Devils in ice time on Monday, with 21:39 on the night, but did not pick up a point, despite his team putting up 7 goals against the Canucks. He finished as a +1 with 3 shots on goal, 1 hit and 1 blocked shot.
Other Devils players believed to be on the trading block are former Leafs winger Andreas Johnsson and former first round pick, Pavel Zacha.
With 3 weeks remaining until the trade deadline, it's likely that things are going to begin to heat up on the trade market.
