The Leafs did have some good news to announce this week involving Woll, however, informing fans that Woll has joined the team for the club's four-game road trip across Western Canada and Seattle. Unfortunately, there was some bad news attached to it.
Head Coach Sheldon Keefe told the media this week that Woll will do more work alone with goalie coach Curtis Sanford on the road and won't play in any games, nor is he expected to get in any full practices.
Woll has been out of the lineup since Dec. 7 when he suffered his high-ankle sprain during a game against the Ottawa Senators. The 25-year-old, has been outstanding when healthy, posting a record of 8-5-1 with a 2.80 GAA and .916 save percentage.
With Ilya Samsonov being virtually unplayable for long stretches this season it has put the stress on Martin Jones to fill in when Woll went down with his injury. The 34-year-old Jones has filled in admirably for the franchise but fans know their best chance of success is having a healthy Woll in between the pipes. That appears to be coming barring any setbacks, but we're not quite there yet.
