We are on day three of NHL Free Agency and the Maple Leafs may have struck gold in the form of a steal of a contract for a very versatile veteran forward. The club announced today that they have signed Calle Järnkrok to a four-year deal. The annual average value of the deal is just $2.1 million.

The 30-year-old Swede put up 30 points this year in 66 games with the Seattle Kraken and Calgary Flames. He had12 goals and 14 assists with the Kraken, but was limited to just 4 assists during his time in Calgary. With the signing of Järnkrok, it looks like Alexander Kerfoot's days in Toronto may be numbered.

Järnkrok has 241 points in 574 career NHL games. He was drafted in the second round, 51st overall by the Detroit Red Wings back in 2010. He played a pair of seasons in the AHL before being dealt to the Nashville Predators, where he played the majority of his NHL career. Järnkrok was selected by the Seattle Kraken during the NHL expansion draft last summer.

Järnkrok had 4 points in 12 playoff games with the Flames this year. There's not a whole lot to hate about this deal for the Leafs. Some shrewd work here by Kyle Dubas.
