The Atlantic Division continues to dominate the trade board, as the Tampa Bay Lightning has reached a deal with the Ottawa Senators to bring forward Nick Paul to Tampa.

Paul, 27, is a former 4th round pick by the Dallas Stars back in 2013. He was originally acquired by the Sens from the Stars in the Jason Spezza deal back in 2014. Paul has been up and down between the AHL and the NHL off and on since 2015-16, but after a long struggle to become a full-time NHLer, the Mississauga, ON native finally cemented himself as an NHL player in 2019-20 and he has never looked back.

The Sens will receive forward Mathieu Joseph and a 2024 4th round pick as compensation in the deal. Paul stands 6'3 and weighs in at 224 lbs, so he definitely is the type of player who is built for the playoffs.

Paul, along with fellow newcomer Brandon Hagel, will likely form 2/3 of Tampa's new-look third line after the departures of Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow. Both forwards play with some bite and have the ability to chip in offensively as well.

The Ottawa Senators have agreed to eat 44.5% of Paul's $1.35M cap hit.
