MLB star takes to social media to show Auston Matthews some love after Hart Trophy/Ted Lindsay wins
Auston Matthews transcended hockey a long time ago, but I think sometimes we forget just how far-reaching his influence is. His historic season may not have led to the postseason success that we were all hoping for, but it certainly did add to his ever-growing legacy.
Professional athletes often have a profound mutual respect for one another and this tweet from MLB star Joey Votto is evidence of that.
Votto, 38, is a former MVP himself and a Gold Glove winner, so he knows a thing or two about excelling at his position. He's also a Toronto native, and I'd imagine a Leafs fan at heart.
The tweet came less than 24 hours after Matthews cleaned house at the NHL Awards ceremony in Tampa Bay, Florida. Matthews took home the coveted Hart Memorial Trophy, as well as the Ted Lindsay Award, solidifying what we already knew - Matthews is an MVP-caliber hockey player. Both the Professional Hockey Writers Association and the NHL Players Association saw to it through the votes that Matthews was acknowledged as such for his incredible 2021-22 season.
Game recognizes game, and I'm sure Auston Matthews appreciates the sentiments from Votto and that the respect is mutual.
