Well, it took 3 regular season games and 6 postseason games, but Matthew Knies has finally scored his first as a Leaf! The goal couldn't have come at a better time for the Leafs and for Knies, as he had just deflected a puck past his own goaltender just 11 seconds earlier.
As far as Knies' goal, it was a beauty, albeit a bit of a chaotic beauty. Auston Matthews spun off the wall in the offensive zone, and fired a pass to the middle of the ice that was picked up by Knies and taken to the net with two defenders on his back. Knies could get the shot off, so he held onto the puck and waited for the defenders to fly by him before he spun and tucked a pretty little backhand into the open cage.
Now that the monkey is officially off his back, I'll be interested to see if the floodgates open up for Knies here. He's certainly had plenty of good looks in his short tenure with the Leafs, but now that the first one is out of the way, I'll bet the 2nd won't be too far behind.
