Heading into this season, Matthews has a chance to reach a couple more individual milestones, as do John Tavares, William Nylander, Mitch Marner and even Morgan Reilly. Matthews is 41 goals away from 300 in his career and 43 points away from 500. Marner isn't far behind, needing only 45 points to reach the 500 point plateau. At 24 and 25 years old, Matthews and Marner are well on their way to being the greatest Leafs of all time.
As for Tavares, he is 9 goals shy of 400. Not bad for a guy many people are still calling overpaid. Nylander is 57 points away from 400. The Leafs' "Core 4" should have no issues hitting any of those milestones this season with many of them likely to come in the first 50 games of the season.
Lost in all of the milestone talk for the Leaf forwards is the fact the longest current tenured Leaf in Morgan Reilly is only 27 points away from reach 400 for his career. It looks like the Leafs are poised to break and set some more records this coming season, but of course, the regular season means nothing right now until they get over the first round hump and go on a run. Still.. it doesn't mean that we can't also enjoy the little things.
