Matthews is the 1st player since Mario Lemieux to score 50 in 50; the Hart Trophy conversation is over
Ladies and gentlemen, the Hart Trophy conversation is over. As if it wasn't already Auston Matthews' award to lose, the 24-year-old scored a pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart against the Montreal Canadiens to bring his total to 58 goals and 51 goals in his last 50 games.
Matthews is an absolute mutant. There's just no other way to put it. He's not human. The last guy to do what he has done was Mario Lemieux back in 1995-96, and we all know that Super Mario was a mutant in his own right.
What's even more impressive about Matthews going 51 in 50 is that he's doing it in an era where goalies are bigger, more athletic and wearing bigger equipment than ever before. Simply unreal.
