Sunday afternoon in Ottawa was the scene of Max Domi's first game in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, albeit a pre-season game. Domi's homecoming has been a long time coming as the 2nd generation NHLer has always wanted to have the opportunity to play for the Leafs, just like his old man, Tie Domi.

Domi, 28, slotted in next to William Nylander and Calle Jarnkrok to open the game and it didn't take him long to wind up in the box to serve his first penalty. Domi was assessed a roughing minor just 13 seconds into the game after getting his hands up into the face or Senators defenseman Artem Zub on the forecheck.

The penalty call was perhaps a soft one, but with this being pre-season action, the officials were probably just setting the tone and showing both teams how the game would be called today in hopes of keeping things under control. In their minds, there's no use in letting the energy levels get too crazy and have someone hurt in a meaningless pre-season game.

Still, if you're Domi, a roughing penalty is probably the right one to take. At least he's showing that he plans to be engaged and get in the faces of the opposition in hopes of forcing a turnover.

Domi doesn't stand a chance of catching his dad for penalty minutes in a Leafs jersey, but I don't think Tie's first penalty came just 13 seconds into his career as a Leaf, so there's something for Max to hold over his dad's head.
