Michael Bunting and Mitch Marner connect for a beautiful first Leafs goal of the 2022-23 season
The Leafs' 2022-23 season is under way at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Wednesday and, wouldn't you know it, the Leafs are on the board first thanks to a sensational play down low by Mitch Marner to juke out the defender and find a passing lane to Michael Bunting out in front.
That's a big one for Bunting, who is in a contract year. A report from TSN's Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday suggested that the Leafs could look to lock up Bunting to an 8-year deal to help keep the AAV down on his next deal. Bunting had 63 points for the Leafs in his rookie year last season.
Bunting spent a lot of time training with Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews over the offseason as the three look to improve upon the already great chemistry they showed in 2021-22. If this play between Marner and Bunting is any indication, that time was well spent!
