Auston Matthews finally hit 50 goals in a season Thursday night against the Winnipeg Jets. I say finally because this should be his third straight 50 goal season, and would have been if not for the pandemic shortening the last 2 NHL seasons. This year, however, Matthews was able to accomplish the feat in only 62 games played. A pace nobody in the NHL has managed since some guy named *checks notes* Mario Lemieux pulled it off. I'll have to check his hockeydb later, sounds like he might have been pretty good.

Matthews' 50th was slightly anti climactic, an empty netter to seal a victory against the Winnipeg Jets. Still, it was a special goal, made even more special on the scoresheet when Mitch Marner was credited with a primary assist. The two close friends have torn the league apart this season along with newcomer Michael Bunting. Its only fitting that on his 50th goal, Marner was the man to help him get it.

Marner took to both Twitter and Instagram to congratulate Matthews on his feat.

Matthews was quick to respond on Instagram, "My dawg ❤️🤙 love you bro"

Clearly these two enjoy being teammates on and off the ice. If it means they'll continue to play the way they have since the All-Star break I'm all for it!
