There were a lot of cringeworthy moments during Friday's All-Star Skills Competition, but perhaps none more cringeworthy than the NHL's push to become more entertaining by having star players perform skits during the breakaway challenge as if they were some high-school drama club.

Credit to David Pastrnak, whose "Happy Gilmore" routine seemed to generate some laughter and nostalgia value, but for Leafs superstar Mitch Marner, it was a much different story. Marner, who played off of Miami Vice to try to appeal to the Florida crowd, had a pretty poorly executed and poorly received routine.

The comments from fans on social media throughout the event reflected their disappointment from start to finish, but Marner's Miami Vice bit was arguably one of the worst moments of the night.

I know it's all in good fun. I know what the NHL was going for with this entertainment angle, but part of me wonders whether or not it would be more entertaining for the fans if the players just showed up and gave it a maximum effort to show off their actual skills than try to turn the NHL into something it's not.

This one is not only a huge "L" for the NHL, it's an even bigger "L" for Gary Bettman for allowing/encouraging it to happen.
