During the second period of Devils/Isles game, New Jersey's Miles Wood tried to go end-to-end, weaving through Islanders players in the neutral zone and into the attacking zone, when Alexander Romanov lined him up for a massive hit as Wood had cut to the middle of the ice. This was the end result:
Devils forward Michael McLeod took exception to the hit, going right after Romanov, with the two dropping the mitts. There was initially no penalty on the play until the fits began to fly. In the end, Romanov got 5 for fighting, while McLeod got 5 for fighting, a 2-minute instigator penalty and a 10-minute misconduct. Wood did not see another shift in the game.
Following the game, Romanov was asked about the hit and whether or not he felt as though it was clean or dirty. Romanov responded with;
Thus far, there has been no mention of any expected supplemental discipline, nor do we expect that there will be. It looked like a clean, body-on-body hit. It's just an unfortunate result for Wood and the Devils.
