Newly-signed Avs forward fires his agent for turning down a better deal than the one he signed
Earlier this week, UFA forward Evan Rodrigues settled on his new home for next season, signing a 1-year, $2M contract with the defending Stanley Cup Champs, the Colorado Avalanche. The dollar figure seems fair, though the term is lower than most may have anticipated after a career year.
Well, according to a recent report, Rodrigues may have actually had a much larger deal on the table earlier this summer - one that his agent passed on. Well, in the end, the Toronto native settled for nearly $8M less and 2 years shorter in term.
Per Frank Seravalli, Rodrigues was sent a three-year deal worth $10.5 million ($3.5M AAV) earlier this summer. Naturally, the 29-year-old fired his agent and who could blame him?
Now that he's a member of the Avs, Rodrigues has a sensational opportunity in front of him to be able to put up another career year, production-wise, and use that to cash in on his next deal.
Rodrigues racked up 19 goals and 43 points in 82 games this past season in Pittsburgh.
