They say that you have to be just a little bit nuts to strap on some pads and allow grown men to fire pucks at you at 100 mph. Then again, I don't think anyone had ever accused NHL goaltenders of being completely sane.

On Monday, Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner backstopped his team to a 1-0 victory against the always dangerous Washington Capitals, but he did not come away completely unscathed. He has the league's 2nd-leading scorer, Alexander Ovechkin, to thank for that.

During the contest, Ovechkin ripped a 99 mph shot right off the mask of Lehner, stunning the Swedish netminder momentarily. What was even more of a shock was the damage that the shot had done to Lehner's goalie mask.

The clip doesn't show Lehner's cage, but fortunately for us, the Golden Knights' equipment manager took some snaps of the damage.

Lehner was forced to swap masks during the game and, despite being rattled by the shot, Lehner was able to finish out the game, securing himself the 34-save shutout.
