Late last night, the New York Rangers named Jacob Trouba the 28th captain in franchise history. He is the first Rangers Captain since the team traded Ryan McDonagh in 2018. Trouba is a hard-nosed defenseman who has found a way to play with an "old school" edge and still be effective in the modern NHL. That edge and physicality is something you don't see all that often in today's NHL, but he is one of the few that has made it stick.

Trouba has always played with that edge, which we saw plenty of in the postseason where he delivered plenty of bone-crushing and boarder-line questionable hits. In 81 games last season, he finished with 39 points and a surprisingly low 88 penalty minutes, given the style of game he is known for.

When the news broke that Trouba would be captain, his teammate and alternate captain Artemi Panarin posted a congratulations video to social media where he awkwardly holds his hand up for a high-five saying congratulations. At the end of the video, Panarin throws a joking shot at Trouba saying, "Happy for you, but I still think I am better choice" and promptly cutting the video right there with a smile.
