We all know that there's a weird dynamic that exists between officials and players. They're not exactly friends, but they're not necessarily enemies either. Most players understand that the referees and linesmen have a purpose and that they're not always going to see eye to eye on how the game is managed.
Seldom do we ever see players intentionally cross the line and laying hands (or sticks) on the officials, but every now and again, it does occur. Perhaps the worst example of this in recent memory occurred this week in a Russian league.
The police have been called to investigate after a Russian league player delivered a violent two-handed slash to the head of an official on the ice during a game, dropping him to the ice before following it up with a kick to the torso.
I'm honestly pretty speechless. I've seen players and referees mix it up in the past, but the Russian player certainly crossed a line here. It would not surprise me in the least to see him thrown out of the league and perhaps even face criminal charges.
