Racist comments from a BC Hockey League commentator on the broadcast leads to lifetime ban
A play-by-play announcer in the BC Hockey League has been fired after an ugly racist comment was made towards Owen Kim, a player of Asian descent, on Friday's broadcast.
The comment came during the second period, as Alberni Valley Bulldogs colour commentator Bruce MacDonald was reacting live on the air to Kim bumped into a larger Langley Rivermen player after the whistle.
Kim, who was born in North Vancouver, BC, was made aware of the comments, as were the Bulldogs, and the BC Hockey League issued the following statement on the matter, announcing a lifetime ban for MacDonald and apologizing to Kim and his family.
