The New York Rangers are on the cusp of taking a 1-0 series lead on the Tampa Bay Lightning, currently ahead 6-2 with just over 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd period. Is it time to tell the Rangers a cautionary tale about why you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch? It just might be.

During the third period, around the midway point, with just under 12 minutes remaining in the contest, the Rangers fans in attendance at Madison Square Garden began to chant "Igor's better" in unison, directed at Andrei Vasilevskiy. This is obviously in reference to the narrative that was spun before this series started - the battle of arguably the two best goalies in the league, Igor Shesterkin and the aforementioned Vasilevskiy.

I mean, the phrase "don't poke the bear" comes to mind.. but should someone tell them that it's probably extra unwise to poke THAT specific bear? We can run down the list all day long.. Back-to-back Stanley Cup winner. Vezina Trophy winner. Conn Smythe winner. Lost Game 1 against the Isles last year.. won in 7. Lost Game 1 against the Leafs this year.. won in 7. Just SWEPT the Presidents Trophy winners..

Rangers fans might be in for a rude awakening in Game 2.
