DeBrincat, 24, has had his name come up lately in trade rumours, and for good reason. Not many players eclipse the 40-goal mark in a season. DeBrincat has done it twice. That's why, when The Athletic's Mark Lazarus revealed what the young sniper's next deal might look like from a cap perspective, it opened more than a few eyes.. some very wide.
After next season, DeBrincat will be a restricted free agent, which means the Blackhawks could potentially lose him to an offer sheet. I don't think anybody sees that happening. Offer sheets are just too few and far between.
Just for reference purposes, at the $9M-$10M range, the compensation, if the Blackhawks opted not to match a potential offer sheet, would be 2 first rounders, a second rounder and a 3rd rounder
This season alone, DeBrincat notched 78 points, 41 of them being goals. On a team that struggled to score, that's nothing to shrug at. He has suitors now as a trade target, and I'm sure that if he decides he'd like to sign an offer sheet next summer, he'll have suitors then as well.
