Per one of the most trusted sources there is in hockey, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman made an interesting remark in his most recent edition of 32 Thoughts, in relation to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Friedman stated on Tuesday night that the Leafs may be looking at moving out a contract so that they can add a piece at the trade deadline coming up in March.

While the comment itself is vague, you need only look at what's been happening with forward Nick Ritchie and his $2.5M deal. Ritchie found himself a healthy scratch a short time ago, and once the Leafs make it back to full health up front, Ritchie does appear to be the odd man out.

Another area where the Leafs might be able to save some valuable cap space is at the backup goaltender position. Petr Mrazek, who makes $3.8M per season for the next two seasons, has been less than advertised, supplying the Leafs with just 4 starts this season and abysmal numbers.

The Czech netminder owns a 2-2-0 record with a 3.59 GAA and a .882 SV% this season. Meanwhile, Nick Ritchie has managed just 9 points in 33 games, despite seeing significant ice time with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner to start the season.
