He is reportedly looking for $5M or more per season and it appears as though the Leafs are not prepared to go that high, given that Campbell barely has 1 season as a true number one goalie under his belt at 30 years of age. Seasoned reporter Mark Spector has reported that if Campbell isn't re-signed by the Leafs, the Oilers will be all in on trying to bring Campbell West.
Spector foresees a Campbell and Stuart Skinner tandem between the pipes for the Oilers next season. This means that Mike Smith is leaning towards retirement and his final year at $2M will come off the books. The Oilers seem to love signing former Leafs, with Cody Ceci, Tyson Barrie and Zach Hyman already there. It sounds like Campbell could be next if the Oilers have the opportunity to bring him in.
