Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman has generated a lot of talk over the past few days following an altercation with Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane that earned him a $4,250 fine for flipping Kane the bird during the heated exchange as the two were kept separated by the officials.

On Wednesday, Wild fans began sending Hartman money through his Venmo account to help him pay his fine. One such donor was the ex-wife of Evander Kane, Anna Kane, who donated $200 USD.

As if that didn't generate enough of a buzz, Hartman issued an announcement on Thursday, via his official Twitter account, stating that he was blown away by the support he had received without request. He informed his followers that he still intends to use his own money to pay his fine, but that every penny of what had been donated to him through Venmo would be donated to charity.

"Wow.overwhelmed by the amount of donations I have received to help pay for my fine. You fans are amazing. I will be paying for it with my own money, but wanted to let everyone know that any money sent to me by 7 pm on Friday will be donated to Children's Minnesota."

According to reports, Hartman has received upwards of $6,000 from fans through Venmo. I'd imagine that after his announcement, that number is going to skyrocket. Hartman also plugged the children's charity in a subsequent tweet to try to get Wild fans to donate directly as opposed to sending him money through Venmo.

Ryan Hartman: Children's charity supporter, Evander Kane bird flipper, all-around good guy.
