The first period for the Leafs last night was very sluggish as they were outshot 8-2 and were down 1-0 after 20 minutes. Thankfully, the Buds took control of the game in the 2nd period and skated away with the victory to snap a 2-game losing skid.

Following the game, Ilya Samsonov was asked what the turning point was as the Leafs scored just 24 seconds into the second frame. Per Samsonov, it was actually Sheldon Keefe who was able to snap his team out of their funk during the first intermission.

"Sheldon, he said a couple of good words. It's good. That's nice. We're more awake after the first period, we played so different and we got some nice win."

To his credit, Samsonov also had a bounce-back game, although not his busiest of the year. He made key saves when the Leafs needed them and gave up just the one goal in the first. After giving up 3 or more goals in each of his previous 4 starts, it was exactly what he needed to get back on track.

The Leafs will look to continue their play from the second period on last night again tonight as they take on the Flyers in Philadelphia. Samsonov won't be in goal, however, as Matt Murray is the confirmed starter tonight.
