During his walk up to accept his jersey and draft cap, Wright stopped to shake hands with Commissioner Gary Bettman and for a photo op in front of a packed house at the Bell Centre in Montreal. During his interaction with Bettman, Wright appeared to flash the Habs' draft table a dirty look, but since it was very brief nobody really paid attention. What came next was a much less subtle glare of disapproval before Wright proceeded over to Ron Francis and the rest of the Kraken front office to be welcomed into the NHL by his new team.
During a recent appearance on Blue Jays Central, as Wright and new teammate Matty Beniers were taking in a Jays/Mariners game in Seattle, Wright was asked about the incident and was more than happy to clear the air about what had occurred, admitting that he was more lost in the moment than anything else.
Whether Wright is genuinely truthful about the incident or he's simply attempting to just put the whole ordeal behind him and move on is really anyone's guess. He doesn't seem like he's being disingenuous, so perhaps he really was just caught up in the moment and looking at all the cameras. That said, emotions were high on draft night, and I don't think anyone would really blame him even if he did flash a look at the Habs' table after they pivoted to Slafkovsky at #1 instead, triggering Wright's free fall.
