Minten was named Captain of the Kamloops Blazers this summer, and his younger brother Bryce also signed with the team. The plan was for Minten to return to WHL action this season and dominate before moving to the Marlies or Leafs next season. Thanks to the excellent camp he's had, Minten may not make it back to the Blazers this season.
According to Sheldon Keefe, Minten has earned himself a chance to make the Leafs out of camp. His chemistry with Matthew Knies is undeniable, and the duo are skating on a line with Calle Jarnkrok today at practice. Keefe has also raved about Minten's leadership on the bench and on the ice. The question now becomes whether Minten can earn a permanent spot, or if he'll get a 9 game trial run, preserving a year of his entry level contract. I think he's exceeded expectations enough that a 9 game trial is the very least he should get, if he succeeds in those games, keeping him for all 82 is a no-brainer!
