The latest victim of the flu bug is Swiss Army knife and all situations forward Calle Järnkrok, who missed yesterdays practice when he was deemed unable to participate. Ultimately, it led to Pontus Holmberg skating in his place. Fortunately, it seems like it was a 24 hour flu, since Järnkrok has been spotted at the optional skate today, ahead of tonights road game matchup against the Blue Jackets.
After the Thursday blowout to Buffalo, and a long and gruelling practice yesterday, roughly half of the roster is out on the ice for todays optional skate. This list includes some of our middle-six and bottom-six forwards, majority of our blueline, and Ilya Samsonov. Talk about commitment.
As far as Järnkrok's availability tonight, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update this morning. He kept it brief, referencing that Järnkrok was able to keep food down today ahead of todays optional skate. He's expected to be a game-time decision.
If the veteran forward is not able to go tonight after all, look for Holmberg to skate on the right wing with Max Domi and Nick Robertson, where he acted as a placeholder yesterday at practice.
