The Leafs came out flat against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night after an embarrassing 5-1 loss. An embarrassing effort all around and one that needed to be addressed. At Friday's practice there was news of a Nick Robertson promotion as he's now skating with John Tavares and William Nylander.

Meanwhile Rasmus Sandin was not skating with the team. The biggest takeaway from this practice is that Sheldon Keefe ran his longest and most intense practice of the year, according to the Toronto Sun's Lance Hornby, who was in attendance.

Some Leafs players chalked up their loss to the Sabres as taking an inferior team lightly and due to a lack of preparation. This is obviously a cardinal sin in professional sports, and as a result, they lost to the Buffalo Sabres. Sheldon Keefe is ensuring that the Leafs are prepared and not taking the non-playoff team Vancouver Canucks lightly.

The Leafs chalk up a lot of their bad efforts and losses to lack of preparation and refer to them as a wake up call. Unfortunately they seem to need a wake up call at least once a month. It appears that Keefe is fed up with his team dropping points to lackluster opponents and he's ensuring that the Leafs have no excuses when they take on the Canucks on Saturday.
