Jake Muzzin has been out since mid-October with a cervical spine injury that was suffered in an awkward collision against Arizona. He is scheduled to be re-evaluated at the end of February to determine his playing status but given his history of concussions and the severity of cervical spine injuries, it is highly unlikely he will play again.

That uncertainty hasn't stopped Muzzin from showing up to the rink every day and doing what he can to rehab his injury. He is a very vocal member of the Leafs leadership group and it is important for him to be around the team as much as possible.

Today, Head Coach Sheldon Keefe talked about his recovery process and what it means to have him around the rink.

"It's him being a pro athlete. He's got a long road ahead and we don't know what's at the end of it. But he's still playing a role on our team. Our guys like having him."

Even though he doesn't travel with the team on road trips, Muzzin makes every effort to be around them when the team is in Toronto. As Mitch Marner has said on multiple occasions, they are very close and that he means a great deal to everyone on the team so having Muzzin's opinion on things even when he's not around physically, can play a huge role for the Leafs.
