Stars score on controversial goalie interference non-call; Leafs/Devils game even more suspect in NJ fans' eyes

The New Jersey Devils played host to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday in what they were hoping was going to be a record-setting 14th straight win. Unfortunately, due to having a trio of goals called back - two for goalie interference and one for a distinct kicking motion - the Leafs were able to skate away with a 2-1 victory, but not before being pelted by garbage and full beers.

Following the controversial outcome, Devils fans were irate and some were even demanding heads to roll in the war room, which is located in Toronto. Accusations of collusion between the Leafs and the league were rampant, which is ridiculous when you consider how horrendous the Leafs' luck with the officials has been - especially in the playoffs. Nevertheless, this one was certainly enough to raise just about every eyebrow in New Jersey.

As if it couldn't have gotten any worse, during last night's Jets/Stars game in Dallas, a late game-tying goal by Stars winger Jason Robertson has Jets fans and Devils fans completely up in arms. The reason? Goalie interference - only it was an infraction that went uncalled.

With a little over 18 seconds remaining in the 3rd period of Friday night's game, Robertson ripped one into the open net after Jamie Benn ran right through Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, knocking his helmet off in the process, carried the puck around the net and dished to Tyler Seguin, who fed a wide open Robertson for the game-tying goal.

Normally, when a goaltender's helmet comes off, the play is immediately blown dead, but not in this case - and now Jets and Devils fans are throwing fits. After all, this is more blatant than either Devils goalie interference infraction and both of those had been called back.

Now, obviously, as Leafs fans, we've moved on from Wednesday's game in New Jersey. What's done is done and now it's about looking ahead. However, for Devils fans, Friday's incident is pouring some salt in the wounds and creating another layer of controversy and questions of collusion between the Leafs and the NHL.
