There is a great deal of speculation over what the Toronto Maple Leafs have planned for the upcoming trade deadline. We do know that GM Kyle Dubas is not afraid to make bold moves at or ahead of the deadline, as he has made moves for Jake Muzzin, Jack Campbell and Nick Foligno in recent years.

We're starting to get a bit more clarity on what the Leafs' biggest needs are ahead of the 2022 trade deadline, which is set to take place on March 21st, and now, thanks to TSN's Insider Trading panel, we have some insight as to what the Leafs' plans could entail.

During Tuesday's edition of Insider Trading, Chris Johnston pointed out the fact that Dubas had put a heavy focus on acquiring players on expiring contracts last year. Johnston is reporting that the plan this year is to add players with some term remaining.

"The Leafs won't rule anything out. I think that they're just looking to get as many good players as they can, but they like the idea of getting players with some term, because they feel it gives them a chance to get settled in," Johnston said.

This could be an excellent approach for the Leafs, due to the fact that it puts a bit of a halt to that constant revolving door of players that we've seen over the last several seasons. It could pay off in spades if the players they bring in can find some quick chemistry with the team and help push the Leafs past the first round and, hopefully, propel the team to greater heights in the 2022 playoffs.
