What is particularly impressive about this streak is that the Lightning have been able to find this success during the salary cap era. And while we know last season the Bolts kept star forward Nikita Kucherov on the injured reserve all season, only to activate him for game one of the playoffs in a move that appeared to be circumventing the salary cap, the Lightning still found a way to win this season without utilizing the long term injured reserve.
If Tampa Bay is able to win the Stanley Cup again this year, they will have a shot at passing the Montreal Canadiens 13 consecutive playoff series wins from the 1970's. And while that certainly seems possible, it seems very unlikely the Bolts pass the New York Islanders all time record of 19.
Will the Lightning keep this streak alive? Or will the Colorado Avalanche break the streak and end the Bolts quest for a threepeat? Game one of the Stanley Cup Finals begins this Wednesday at 8 p.m.
