Just when it looked as though the Leafs had returned to full health, the hockey gods and COVID-19 have stepped in to remind us that we are absolutely cursed and are but insects in a world of giants.

The Leafs announced on Friday that they have added forwards Mitch Marner and Pierre Engvall to COVID-19 protocol. There is still the possibility that each could have experienced a false positive, much like what Auston Matthews went through early this week, but until the results from their follow-up PCR tests come back, we won't know for sure.

The Leafs are expected to be in Denver, Colorado to take on the Avs on Saturday, and thanks to the taxi squad, the club was able to call up Joey Anderson and the surging Brett Seney to fill in while Marner and Engvall are sidelined.

At this point, it is unclear whether or not the Leafs will be able to clear Marner and Engvall in time for tomorrow's game against the Avs in the event of a false positive, so they may be out of the lineup regardless for precautionary reasons.

If both Marner and Engvall are confirmed positive on Saturday, they'll need to isolate at least 5 days if they're asymptomatic. If they are exhibiting symptoms that do not appear to be improving after 5 days, they could miss multiple games.
