It's no secret that the Leafs are looking to shore up their defense at or before the NHL's March 21st trade deadline. They have been linked to several potential trade candidates such as Hampus Lindholm, John Klingberg and Ben Chiarot and are even rumoured to have kicked tires on Arizona's Jakob Chychrun. That said, the Leafs have not been identified as frontrunners for any of the abovementioned defenders. There is one, however, who fits the mold of what the Leafs are looking for and he resides in the Western Conference.

The one target that makes a lot of sense for the Leafs is Toronto native and Seattle Kraken captain Mark Giordano. The problem is, until this point, we had no idea what the asking price on Giordano might be. Now, thanks to TSN's Darren Dreger, we have some clarity there.

During an appearance on Sekeres & Price on Thursday morning, Dreger revealed that Kraken GM Ron Francis has asked teams who have inquired on Gio for a first round pick in return. Dreger does not necessarily believe that the Kraken are going to have that asking price met.

The NHL Insider identified Toronto and Calgary as potential landing spots, though he did add that a return to the Flames could be a long shot.

Through 50 games with the Kraken this season, the 38-year-old has tallied 6 goals and 17 assists for 23 points. At nearly half a point per game, that's pretty good production from the veteran defender.
