Well, the latter issue turned out to be a big one for Kane, who was placed in COVID protocol back before the Christmas break and had reportedly dealt with a severe case after testing positive on December 22nd.
Kane was suspended 21 games by the NHL for violating COVID protocol and securing fake COVID vaccine documentation to get around requiring vaccination in order to play, rather than just taking a similar path to what Detroit's Tyler Bertuzzi and New Jersey's MacKenzie Blackwood had taken, just openly choosing to remain unvaccinated to start the season.
Following the conclusion of his suspension, Kane was waived and assigned to the Sharks' AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, where he's been ever since. Kane has now played 5 games in the AHL, recording 8 points.
As of Saturday, the latest update is that Kane remains out, as he continues to deal with the effects that the virus had on him. There is currently no timetable available for a possible return.
