According to Vancouver Hockey Now's Rob Simpson, the most recent reports around Vancouver have Miller's ask at 7 years and $9M per season, which is obviously a little rich for the Canucks' liking. The issue for the Canucks, per Simpson, is Miller's age. Simpson hypothesized that if Miller was 3 or 4 years younger, the deal would probably be done already.
Miller has just two seasons to his credit at a point-per-game or higher, including a 99-point season in 2021-22. It's really unfortunate timing for the Canucks and great timing for Miller, as he will almost certainly get at least $8M on a long-term extension. Unfortunately for him, it just may not be in Vancouver.
Miller noted on a recent appearance on the Dropping the Gloves podcast with John Scott that he doesn't believe that the team thinks he fits their vision, so the writing may already be on the wall. If he's not dealt this summer, he'll almost certainly be gone by the trade deadline.
