With all the talk about how the Leafs and Rasmus Sandin are going nowhere in their contract negotiations, people seem to have forgotten about two major RFAs in Dallas. Both Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger remain unsigned and it looks like no resolution will be in place any time soon.

The older brother of Leafs prospect Nick Robertson, Jason had a coming out party of sorts last season. He scored 41 goals and finished with 79 points in his second full season with Dallas. In 128 games with the Stars he has amassed 125 points. A short, bridge deal would help the Stars out the next couple seasons as they have some big money coming off the books down the line, but if they were looking to sign Robertson to a long-term deal, Evolving Hockey has projected an AAV of $7.9M. Given that the Stars have only $10M in cap space, and have yet to pay their starting goalie, a short-term deal would work best for both Robertson and Dallas.

Oettinger on the other hand, is coming off of his first season as the Stars' starting goalie where he played in 48 games posting a 30-15-1 record to go along with a 2.53GAA and .914 save percentage. Not only did he post a very respectable save percentage in the regular season, but Oettinger helped push the Flames to 7 games in round 1 while posting a 1.81GAA and a godly .954 save percentage. Had the Stars been able to manage any offense whatsoever, that's Cup-winning, Conn Smythe, Vezina-caliber goaltending.

According to Evolving Hockey, Oettinger's next deal is projected to be around $5M per season on a shorter term deal, similar to those signed by Vitek Vanecek and Ville Husso. At just 23 years old, a short term deal makes sense for both Oettinger and the Stars. However, Saad Yousuf of The Athletic has reported that contract talks between Oettinger, Robertson and the Stars are moving at a "snail's pace". With just a couple weeks to go before training camp begins, if the pace of negotiations doesn't pick up, Dallas could begin training camp with out their first line winger and starting goalie.

If this was happening in Toronto, you could bet that the entire fanbase and all of the media would be calling for Kyle Dubas and company to be fired. But, you know, since it's Dallas, they get a pass.
