As you'll recall, Tarasenko famously requested a trade last year, as he felt there might be a better opportunity for him elsewhere, despite the fact that he had already won a Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019. Well, after a successful season for the Blues and a career year for Tarasenko individually, it appears that some fences there have been mended.
Tarasenko has reportedly backed off of his trade request and appears interested in remaining with the team next season. The 30-year-old has just one season remaining on his deal, carrying a $7.5M cap hit.
Tarasenko registered 34 goals and 82 points in 75 games this season, trumping his previous career high of 75 points in 82 games back in 2016-17. The former 16th overall pick also added 9 points in 12 playoff games, albeit in a losing effort to the Colorado Avalanche who went through the Blues for the second straight season and are now battling the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals.
Tank has plenty of hockey left, so it will be interesting to see if he is amenable to signing a contract extension with the Blues this summer or if he's fine just waiting it out until the summer of 2023 to see what else might be out there for him before he makes a decision on his future beyond next season.
